I became a mother very young, at the age of 16.
My name is Bikai Avana Michel Thérèse, born from a family of 9 children of which I am the penultimate, I have gone through so many ordeals and I continue to brave the difficult trials that life teaches me. In 3rd year IH class (sewing), I met my boyfriend of Central African nationality, who came to work as a mason in a construction site in Ambam in southern Cameroon. Naive and at puberty he impregnated me, my parents, angry after hearing the news, decided to lock her up, obviously being in love and naive I opposed this decision saying “If he goes to prison, I’ll go with him.” As a result, they gave up and the guy took care of the pregnancy until the child was 1 year old. After my daughter was 1 year old, her father never made any sign of life or heard from his daughter. Today she is 6 years old and in SIL class, it is my mother who takes care of us. Because my father still lives in the bitterness of my past mistake. As a result, I have no right to anything from him, I no longer date or work, my other brothers and sister-in-law come before me, I no longer have the right to speak. My mother talks a lot but he always uses this language “he sent me to school and I played with it”. Today I’m 22, 6 years later it’s still the same language. There are times when I want to leave everything and go far away from this village. Currently apart from my mother I have no support from anyone, the only thing that keeps me strong is my daughter’s smile. Fortunately for my young sisters, God allowed souls of good will to set up the Ado Matter project, To help teenage mothers have a second chance for themselves and their children, I encourage this project and may God give long life to this project and its initiators. It is a ray of hope.
